9 Ways To Bypass Android's Lock Screen

The main reason to set up some sort of lock screen security on yoursmartphone is to keep strangers (or friends) from checking out yourmessages or private pictures. Beyond that, you don’t want anyone who dares tosteal your phoneto get full access to your mails, pictures or other sensitive data. But what if you’re the one who cannot access your phone? You could forget your PIN or pattern, right? Or someone pranks you by setting up a lock screen pattern and just leaves you struggling with it.

In any case, there’s quite an easy solution to this without smashing your phone against a wall (or your friend’s face). If you have a Samsung phone, you can also unlock your phone using your Samsung account.

Unlock your Android device using Android Device Manager (ADM)

The following method only applies to devices that have Android Device Manager enabled.

1.On a computer or other mobile phone, visit: google.com/android/devicemanager
2.Sign in using your Google login details that you also used on your locked phone.
3.In the ADM interface, select the device you need to unlock (if it isn’t already selected).
4.Select ‘Lock’
5.In the appearing window, enter a temporary password. You don’t have to enter a recovery message. Now click ‘Lock’ again.
6.If it was successful, you should see a confirmation below the box with the buttons Ring, Lock and Erase.
7.On your phone you should now see a password field in which you should enter the temporary password. This should unlock your phone.
8.Now, before you go on with your life, go to your phone’s lock screen settings and disable the temporary password.
9.That’s it!

Unlock your Android lock screen pattern with your Google Login (only Android 4.4 and below)

If you haven’t updated your firmware to Android Lollipop (5.0), then there’s a faster way to unlock a lock screen pattern.

1.Enter a wrong lock screen pattern five times (shouldn’t be hard if you don’t remember the correct one)
2.Select ‘Forgot Pattern’
3.Now you should be able to enter a backup PIN or your Google account login.
4.Enter either your backup PIN or your Google login.
5.Your phone should now be unlocked.

Bypass your Samsung phone’s lock screen using its Find My Mobile tool

This is an easy way to unlock your Samsung device if you created a Samsung account and registered it beforehand.

1.Go to Samsung Find My Mobile.
2.Sign in using your Samsung login details.
3.In the Find My Mobile account interface you should see your registered phone on the left hand side. This tells you that you’re phone is registered to that account.
4.On the left sidebar, select ‘Unlock my screen’.
5.Now select ‘Unlock’ and wait for a few seconds for the process to finish.
6.You should get a notification window telling you that your screen is unlocked.
7.That’s it. Your phone should be unlocked.

Disable your lock screen using custom recovery and “Pattern Password Disable” (SD card needed)

This method is for more advanced Android users that know what the terms“rooting” and “custom recovery”mean. As the title says, for this to work you need any kind ofcustom recovery installed and your phone must have an SD card slot. Why the SD card? Well, we need to transfer a ZIP file to your phone and that’s usually not possible when it’s locked. The only way is to insert an SD card with the file.Unfortunately, card slots became kind of a rare thing in the smartphone world, so this will only work for some people. Here’s what you need to do:

1.Download the Pattern Password Disable ZIP file on your computer and put iton an SD card.
2.Insert the SD card into your phone.
3.Reboot your phone into recovery.
4.Flash the ZIP file on your SD card.
5.Reboot.
6.Your phone should boot up without a locked screen. Shouldthere be a password or gesture lock screen, don’t panic. Just type in a random password or gesture and your phoneshould unlock.

Perform a Factory Reset

If you're more concerned with getting into your phone than you are with preserving any data stored on it, a factory resetshould work in almost any scenario.

The process will vary depending on your device type, but formost phones, start by powering the device completely off. When the screen goes black, press and hold the volume down and power buttons simultaneously, which will bring up Android's bootloader menu.

From here, press the volume down button twice to highlight the "Recovery mode" option, then press the power button to select it.

Next, hold the power button down and tap the volume up button once, then your phone should enter recovery mode.

From here, use the volume buttons to highlight the "Wipe data/factory reset" option, then press the power button to select it.

When the process is finished, select the "Reboot system now" option and you should no longer be locked out of your phone.
Use ADB to Delete the Password File

This next option will only work if you've previouslyenabled USB debuggingon your phone, and even then, it will only work if you've allowed the computer you're using toconnect via ADB. But if you meet those requirements, it's a perfect way to unlock your device.

Start by connecting your phone to your computer with a USB data cable, then open a command prompt window in your ADB installation directory. From here, type the following command, then hit Enter.

*.adb shell rm /data/system/gesture.key

Next, reboot your phone and the secure lock screen should be gone, allowing you to access your phone. But this is onlytemporary, so make sure to set a new pattern, PIN, or password before you reboot again.

Boot into Safe Mode to Bypass Third-Party Lock Screen

If you're trying to bypass is a third-party apprather than the stock lock screen, booting into safe mode is the easiest way to get around it.
For most phones, you can boot into safe mode by bringing up the power menu from the lock screen, then long-pressingthe "Power off" option. From here, choose "OK" when asked if you'd like to boot into safe mode, and when the process finishes, your third-party lock screen app will be temporarilydisabled.
From here, simply clear data on the third-party lock screen app or uninstall it, then reboot your phone to get back out ofsafe mode. When you get back up, the troublesome lock screen app should be gone.

Crash the Lock Screen UI

If your device is encrypted and running Android 5.0-5.1.1, there's a way to get around the password lock screen. This method won't work on any other type of secure lock screen, but it's a lifesaver if you forgot your password.
First, tap the "Emergency Call" option on your lock screen, then use the dialer interface to enter 10 asterisks. From here, double-tap the field to highlight the entered text and choose "Copy," then paste it into the same field to essentially double the amount of entered characters. Repeatthis same process of copying and pasting to add more characters until double-tapping the field no longer highlightsthe characters.
Next, head back to the lock screen and open the camera shortcut. From here, pull down the notification shade and tap the Settings icon, then you'll be prompted to enter a password. Long-press the input field and choose "Paste," then repeat this process several more times. Eventually, after you've pasted enough characters into the field, your lock screen will crash, which will allow you to access the rest of your phone's interface.
